Shadow is a striking young horse with both presence and talent. A lovely mover with a naturally swinging walk, a big, expressive trot, and a rhythmic, balanced canter, he combines athleticism with comfort. His trot may look springy, but it’s surprisingly smooth to sit, and his canter offers the perfect cadence for both flatwork and jumping.
Light in the bridle yet forward-moving, Shadow is self-propelled without ever being rushy or difficult to manage. He responds beautifully to a rider with soft hands and thoughtful aids, appreciating communication through the seat, legs, hands, and even voice. While he carries the confident “look of eagles” and is always aware of his surroundings, Shadow is neither spooky nor timid. He has the sharp mind and athletic body of a serious prospect, paired with the steadiness and confidence of a true partner.
Training & Development:
- Solid foundation in flatwork, focusing on suppleness and flexibility.
- Developing dressage basics with a correct, round frame.
- Consistent work with poles and cavaletti to encourage strength and rhythm.
- Started over fences: confidently trotting in and cantering out of crossrails, verticals, and small natural obstacles.
- Beginning to put together courses with simple changes, and currently progressing toward balanced flying changes.
Shadow is an extremely intelligent horse who thrives when given clarity and time to understand what’s being asked of him. Taking things at a steady pace in his early training has allowed him to become a quick learner who retains lessons with ease. Once he grasps a concept, he not only remembers it, but continues to build and improve upon it. Whether worked daily or given a few days off, Shadow always picks up right where he left off.
